These
two pictures are from March 6th 2003 at PapaBeto jazz bistro. On that weekend I
played with Hector Infanzon's trio on the 6th and the 8th. We were
trying out the new trio format with young, Mexican, bass player,
extraordinare Ivan Barrera. He has just jumped on board the project. And since
we had only done two rehearsals in this format before we headed out to
Washington DC for the Americartes Festival.... We decided that it would be good
to play a couple of times in front of an actual audience to get a real feel of
what we were doing before we hopped on the plane. Little did we know that it was
going to turn out to be two magical evenings at PapaBeto.
These
were taken on March 21st 2003 by my good friend Doctor Ezequiel Lelo. This is at
PapaBeto (I told you I like the place! haha!). That was the beginning of a
beautiful weekend for me. I had the honour of making music for two nights in a
row with two musicians that I admire and respect very deeply. Two guys that I
have learned and still learn from today. I'm talking about Jerry Gonzalez
(trumpet, percussion player and MD of one of N.Y's most influential bands (The
Fort Apache band). And Javier Colinas bass player with Chano Dominguez plus so
many other great p
rojects
from Spain and other parts of the globe. Jerry Gonzalez is one of
Hector Infanzon's all time idols. So when Jerry came into the place looking for
some action I immediately called Hector on the phone and let him know who was in
town and looking for trouble, haha!! he made it to Papa Beto in under 10
minutes. So we all hop on stage and started what ended up to be a wonderful,
musical journey. And to completely make my weekend, it went so well that we
repeated the very next day. Only Hector wasn't there for the second jam. I now
have very nice memories of that weekend. Specially because not did I only
have the chance to make music with
two great musicians like Jerry and Javier, but I also
had
thee chance to meet and hang out with two wonderful human beans. I have just
made two good friends in
Spain now. Unfortunately I don't have any shots of Javier yet. But I'm
looking for some else that was taking pictures on any of those
evenings so I can add his picture to
this site.
Groove Night
Buenos Aires
January 23rd. 2003

It was organized by my college and good friend,
Daniel Volpini with the help of the guys from the club which he is the president
and founder of (Club de bateristas Argentinos).
It took place at the Centro Cultural La Garita on January 23rd, 2003
Buenos Aires, Argentina

Our host and president of
the Club De Bateristas (Daniel Volpini) who also took time out to jam with us
and share his musicality.

Left to right it's Ezequiel, Hernan, me, Sebastian &
Fernando.
After a long night
full of magic, laughter, rhythm & friendship, I guess you can say we did some
serious playing by the sweat on all of us, hahahaha!!!!
Now I can say that I have many friends in Argentina.
And I'm not talking just about the ones in these pictures. I'm talking about all
the guys that were there on that evening. I thank you all for giving me such a
warm welcome. Really made me feel at home.

After many other drummers going on stage
and treating us to wonderful beats solos & routings, the great Hernan Hetch, the
amazing Sebastian Peyceré and I went totally crazy on a friendly but very
aggressive show down. The volume was unbelievable at times. We played for over
an hour and a half non stop. These guys were burning in flames!!!!! So much
music, energy and good vibes were brought out that night. The whole thing
finished around 3:00 AM.

The Mus man & Fernando taking us
through Brasil, big time!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Mus himself! This
is the man who owns and builds these wonderful drum kits we all played on for
the night. Of course he wasn't going to resist so much temptation, haha!
He just had to sit in and play like the rest of us did.

This man is one of the great Argentinean folk music percussionist. And a
wonderful person as well.

Generations making music together. Is that wonderful or what?
We even had the honour of having some of the local legends and long time
teachers come out that night.

The incredible Sebastian
Peycere gave us the honour of dropping by. Now this guy is just to much
once he sits on the drums. It was really fun playing with him. We played for
over one and a half hours non stop.

Daniel Piasola keeps
on making us all smile with his music.

These two guys are really amazing. They not only
have a great talent for music & drums. For example Gustavo (to your left) can
make some of the best pizza I've ever tried. And Ezequiel (to your right) has a
really good I for taking pictures. All these pictures were either taken by him
or with his camera. So I thank him very much for sending these in so I could
share with all of you. GRACIAS!!! Ezequiel.
